Wario, Mario’s opponent in Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins, is more motivated than ever to obtain a castle after being kicked out of Mario’s. This is because Wario was previously living in Mario’s castle. He has overheard rumors that the pirates of Kitchen Island are in possession of a golden statue of Princess Toadstool that is valued at a king’s ransom. Wario calculates that he will have more than enough money to build a castle that is even larger and more impressive than Mario’s if he is successful in stealing the statue of the Princess and all of the other treasures that the pirates have gathered.
You take control of the obnoxious and avaricious Wario in this installment of the series, which sets it apart from the games that came before it in the series. Even when he is very young, Wario is able to smash most bricks with a single punch, and certain foes are so helpless against him that they may be easily thrown aside! Wario can defeat his adversaries with his body slam strike, and he can even pick up his opponents and fling them onto other adversaries. If that wasn’t enough, Wario may also acquire one of three distinct power-ups during the game. The Bull Hat grants him the ability to destroy bricks with a single blow, smash his horns into the ceiling to cling to them, and butt stomp to render all foes helpless. In addition to increasing his vertical and horizontal flight for a brief period of time, the Jet Hat also boosts the wearer’s acceleration and jumping height. Finally, the Dragon Hat grants him the ability to exhale a sustained and powerful torrent of fire for a limited amount of time.
The focus of the game is on financial gain, which is appropriate given Wario’s avaricious character. You may win coins by either snatching them while they are floating in the air, striking them out of blocks, or body slamming into enemies and then collecting the coins that they drop across the many stages. You may also locate secret riches buried deep within some levels by locating a key and then tossing it at the skull door in order to unlock it. This will allow you to get access to the level’s hidden areas. Wario typically has to pay a toll in order for the door to the next level to unlock once he has completed a level and reached its conclusion. When you press Up on the Control Pad and B, a coin that is worth 10 coins will be ejected, and you will need to toss it at the door. As soon as the door opens, you’ll be able to go, and the level will be over. Before you complete each level, you have the option to take part in a mini-game that gives you a 50/50 chance of either doubling or halving the number of coins you now possess. You have three chances to win, and you always have the option to walk away at any time… so don’t become too greedy!
