On the planet Aries, many centuries in the past, there was a little kid named Alex Kidd who lived there. Seven years were spent on Mt. Eternal, where he studied Shellcore, an ancient skill that renders its practitioners so powerful that they can shatter rocks into fragments. A man who was nearing the end of his life warned him that the tranquil city of Radactian was in imminent danger as he was leaving the mountain one day to make his way to the place he considered to be his spiritual birthplace. A portion of a map and a medallion made of sunstone were both passed on to Alex by the dying man before he took his last breath.
Alex is tasked with investigating eleven distinct locales, each of which has its own set of challenges and perils. Alex has the ability to acquire coin bags at each location, which he may spend to purchase stuff in the shop and which also serve the purpose of assisting Alex in completing each location (eg: motorcycle, peticopter, power bracelet, etc.) In addition, there are hazards that Alex needs to avoid, such as the ghost that is pursuing him. He can also acquire the Telepathy Ball, which will allow him to read the thoughts of other people.
Later on, Alex finds out that in order to prevent the destruction of Radactian, he needs to first defeat Janken the Great, Emperor of the planet Janbarik. Janken earned his name as a result of his prowess at the game of Janken, which is comparable to what people in the Western world refer to as “scissors, paper, stone.” Janken has dispersed his hencemen around all of Radactian in order to have the game ready for Alex as he travels through the area. Alex has to have three consecutive wins at Janken in order to go beyond them. If he is victorious, he will be transformed into stone and will never longer be seen in Radactian. Later on in the game, Alex is forced to play with the same henceman, but this time, after Alex has won, they make the decision to cheat and play unfairly.
Alex kills several of Janken’s foes with his fists. These foes include birds, sea horses, bats, monkeys, frogs, and a few others. If he is having trouble with his mission to rescue Radactian from the clutches of Janken, he can utilize the power bracelet to execute the “Shocking Waves of Destruction,” which is an old technique in the art of Shellcore.
It is important for Alex to free his brother Egle from captivity, as well as obtain the letter and the two medallions before he has a direct encounter with Janken.
