Mariocrash and Me-me are responsible for the creation of the ROM hack known as Luigi’s Mansion 64. 2015 was the year it was established, and it now has 111 Stars (they are called Starlings in the hack).
Luigi receives a summons from Princess Peach to come to the castle to save her from King Boo. Upon his arrival, Luigi is greeted by Lakitu, who are filming him at the time. He ventured inside the haunted mansion and was startled to hear a familiar voice warning him that the mansion was not his home. Luigi receives word from Toad, who is located outside, that King Boo and his minions have stormed the castle, taken the princess captive, and are holding everyone else inside the mansion walls as hostages. In addition to this, he has kidnapped the Starlings and distributed them to his henchmen, who are currently hiding in paintings that are dispersed around the spooky mansion. Luigi uses his jumping ability to enter the magical paintings and gather the Starlings so that he may vanquish King Boo and save the Princess.
The hacked version of Super Mario 64 utilizes the original stages, but with significant changes made to them. The overworld architecture is also basically the same, however the levels are rearranged quite a bit from one playthrough to the next. This ensures that followers of the first game will have a strong sense of continuity when playing the sequel. Snowman’s Land is the only one of the Super Mario 64 levels that does not make an appearance in this hack.
The order in which the levels are numbered is a little bit confusing. The levels are shown in order of their appearance in Super Mario 64 while using the pause menu in the overworld or when entering or playing a level. On the other hand, the number that appears next to each level on the pause menu in the overworld displays the sequence in which they should be played.
