While the traditional premise of laying explosives to eliminate patrolling enemies remains, Hudson Soft has stretched it over a more open framework, providing a more profound title that retains the series’ addictive appeal. A larger play area adds to the excitement, and the player is now tasked with accomplishing predetermined tasks within an ever-shrinking time constraint. These range from primary objectives like destroying several blocks in a certain amount of time to more difficult ones like fleeing a level or blowing up particular energy cores. Multiple explosives and a plethora of power-ups are now available, and the series’ massive enemies make a welcome return, testing the player’s precision and usage of timed detonations.
