Bomberman 2 marks the joyous return of Hudson Soft’s evergreen bomb-toting hero with a fresh graphic design and new gameplay features. While the classic notion of laying bombs to remove patrolling foes remains, Hudson Soft has expanded it across a more open framework, resulting in a more decadent title with the series’ addictive appeal. The player is now charged with completing specified tasks within an ever-shrinking time limit, which adds to the thrill. These range from simple goals, such as destroying a given number of blocks in a set period, to more challenging goals, such as leaving a level or blowing up specific energy centers. Multiple explosives and power-ups are now accessible, and the series’ enormous foes return, requiring the player’s accuracy and use of timed detonations. Bomberman 2 may also be customized, with players able to change the appearance and skills of the main hero when new items become available, with over 160,000 possible additions. Similarly, the series’ famed multiplayer component has been upgraded, with the new game including a four-player Versus mode via Wi-Fi or Wireless, with up to eight players battling via Wireless.
