So take your water blaster, summon your bravery, and prepare to explore the Monster HouseTM to discover its mysteries. Monster House is a retro shoot-up based on Columbia Pictures’ animated film. You explore the house room by room, using your touch-screen-operated water pistol to beat off waves of foes (assorted household objects) coming from every direction. You may also collect other power-ups along the route. You can take over the roles of the film’s three main characters: DJ, Chowder, and Jenny. Action-adventure game developer Artificial Mind and Movement created Monster House, available from THQ. Despite being marketed to the same pre-teen audience as the accompanying film, the game’s gameplay was highly reminiscent of Resident Evil 4; the game was generally higher quality than many other games based on children’s films, and it received high ratings from numerous prominent gaming magazines and websites, including Play magazine and GameZone. Monster House received mixed reviews.
