WALL-E (stylized as WALLE) is a video game based on the film of the same name. Play THQ created and distributed the game on a variety of platforms. The game was published on June 24, 2008, in North America, July 4, 2008, in Europe, and September 4, 2008, in Australia. The game was also launched on December 11, 2008, in Japan, albeit it was not officially accessible on the Xbox 360 or any PC. WALL-E received favorable reviews from reviewers. The PS2 version of the game achieved the highest rating of 67 out of 100 on Metacritic. Despite harsh criticism, IGN complimented the PSP adaptation as “one of the most solid film-to-game adaptations we’ve seen in a while.” The video game’s Senior Animation Director was Marc Vulcano. He had recently departed Sony Pictures Imageworks, where he had worked as a Senior Character Animator on films such as Beowulf. He formerly worked as an animation director and supervisor for Big Idea Productions’ VeggieTales. Demos for the video games Ratatouille and Cars are included in the PC edition. There are nine explorable worlds in the PlayStation 3, Wii, and Xbox 360 editions. The Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 2, and PlayStation Portable versions include eighteen explorable worlds, while the Nintendo DS has fourteen. The Wii version is the only one with three head-to-head multiplayer modes, although the Nintendo DS version has co-op options in which you can play as Wall-E or Eve. As the player progresses through the stages in the Nintendo DS version, they acquire movie snippets that may be seen at any time. Music may call reject bots on the PlayStation 2, PSP, and Windows versions throughout the game. The story mode appears to have changed the character roles and made them different from the movie, such as WALL-E being able to use its laser more frequently, EVE being tasered by AUTO (referenced to WALL-E being tasered in the original), WALL-E repairing EVE (in the original, EVE tries to fix WALL-E), and WALL-E surviving being crushed by the Holo-Detector. The reversal of EVE and WALL-E being harmed was initially planned for the film but was subsequently modified.
