In 2002, Kuju Entertainment released Fire Blade, a flying simulation game. The game’s Fire Blade task force fights terrorism with a sophisticated helicopter gunship controlled by the player. The US, suspected of building terrorist training camps and mass destruction weapons factories, is the game’s enemy. ThunderHawk: Operation Phoenix is similar. In Fire Blade, the player must be less cautious and faces more significant numbers of enemies unless on a stealth mission. The main gameplay element is aggressively piloting the player’s attack helicopters against large enemy armored formations and completing the primary mission objectives, which range from blowing up a bridge to helping a special forces team stop a train by parking a truck across the tracks and preventing enemy troops from moving it. In “stealth mode,” the player’s helicopter’s autocannon becomes a precision sniper weapon that can target individual soldiers, allowing the player to shoot opposing infantry like in an FPS. Instead of reloading locations like the Strike Series, destroyed enemy vehicles provide fuel and ammunition for the helicopter’s jet boosters and more potent weapons.
