KnowWonder, Warthog, Griptonite, Argonaut, Eurocom, and Westlake Interactive developed Electronic Arts’ multi-platform action-adventure game Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. J.K. Rowling’s novel and film inspired it. Philosopher’s Stone was initially released for PlayStation, Microsoft Windows, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, and Mac OS X, then remade for PlayStation 2, Xbox, and Nintendo GameCube two years later. The game’s first version was released in North America, Australia, Europe, and Japan on November 15, 16, and 1, 2001, respectively. North America, Japan, Australia, and Europe released the second version on December 9, 11, and 12, 2003, respectively. Harry Potter discovers he is a wizard. He attends Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, where he makes new friends and learns magic before trying to stop Lord Voldemort. Game reviews were mixed. Critics criticized the game’s simplistic gameplay and mediocre graphics (2003 versions), while others claimed that only the license would draw fans.
