In 2003, EA Redwood Shores, Hypnos Entertainment, Griptonite Games, JAMDAT, and Beenox released The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, an action/hack-and-slash video game. EA published the game. The 2002 Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers sequel is this. The game is based on Peter Jackson’s 2002 and 2003 films The Two Towers and The Return of the King. The game does not adapt J. R. R. Tolkien’s 1954 novel The Return of the King, the third volume in his Lord of the Rings trilogy. At the time, Vivendi Universal Games and Tolkien Enterprises controlled video game rights to Tolkien’s works. Electronic Arts owned New Line Cinema video game rights.[12] The game has more narratives, playable characters, and environmental interaction than its predecessor. Some missions allow two-player co-op. Like The Two Towers, The Return of the King was built with the filmmakers, using many of their natural reference pictures, sketches, models, props, and other materials. The graphics, soundtrack, and gameplay were praised, but the camera placement and short length were criticized.
