X-Men: Next Dimension is a fighting game released in 2002 for the PlayStation 2, Xbox, and GameCube video game consoles. Its initial title was X-Men: Mutant Academy 3, but it was later changed. It is the third installment in the X-Men: Mutant Academy series of combat games, after the original X-Men: Mutant Academy and the sequel, X-Men: Mutant Academy 2. The premise of the first two games is expanded upon in the third installment, titled Next Dimension, by including several new playable characters, three-dimensional maps, and a story mode. In this mode, the player engages in a series of battles separated by short movies that advance the story. The story mode’s overall narrative is tangentially inspired by the comic story titled “Operation: Zero Tolerance.”
