You take control of one of 13 different civilizations in Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings, which spans the time period from the fall of Rome through the middle ages. Each empire, such as the Franks, the Japanese, the Byzantines, the Vikings, the Mongols, and the Celts, possesses distinctive qualities, structures, and technologies, in addition to a one-of-a-kind military unit that is modeled after its real-world equivalent. You can choose to attain world dominance and ultimate triumph in one of several ways, including dominating the civilizations of your enemies; achieving economic success through the accumulation of riches; or constructing and protecting the wonders of the globe. The mechanics of the original Age of Empires game is carried over into this sequel, although the combat and economic elements have been updated.
