You can maintain a stranglehold on your corrupt position by taking bribes and using those bribes to pay for protection, recruit goons, and purchase traps to catch courageous heroes. It is your privilege to obfuscate and blatantly beat back their attempts at bringing justice upon your head and hide from these people trying to do good in the world. These people will ultimately come a-knocking. Placing traps inside the building housing the magistrates is another effective method for slowing down or halting the progress of certain misguided heroes.
