Alpine Ski Racing 2007 is a sequel to the Ski Racing series and RTL Ski Alpin 2006, but it resembles the latter more. It’s a game of downhill skiing. The game has three difficulty levels and six modes: slalom, giant slalom, super-g, downhill, free ride, and speed-downhill. The career mode, however, is the game’s heart: here, the player goes through an entire season and tries to be as successful as possible – a good enough overall rank will result in a promotion to the successive higher league for the following season. Before every event, there are several options, such as betting on the outcome and selecting the appropriate wax compound. Other important aspects include maintaining a financial balance and training – specific training points are allocated based on the athlete’s abilities. If the player does not want to do it himself, he can hire a coach to help him. During the events, the controls involve steering, accelerating, and, if necessary, carving for faster turns. There are 38 different races to choose from on 16 other peaks. Players can create their athlete or select one of the few pre-defined athletes based on real-life athletes such as Bode Miller and Hermann Maier.
