The action game Alter Echo is played from a third-person perspective and has an emphasis on battle in close quarters. The story takes place in the 29th century, during which time a material known as Multiplast has supplanted all traditional building materials because of its limitless design potential. Yet there appears to be a problem on the planet Proteus, which is the only known source of the substance Multiplast. Today, the lowly laborer Nevio has the responsibility of conducting an investigation and putting an end to the megalomaniacal shape shifter Paavo, who is in charge of an even more potent chemical. Thankfully, not long after the beginning of the game, Nevo is able to get his hands on a unique outfit that gives him the ability to transform into one of three other forms. In close quarters fighting with the sword form, combos can be performed by pressing the appropriate button combinations at the appropriate times. The cannon form is a large robot that is more suited for gunplay, and the stealth form is a futuristic lizard with a long tongue. Both of these forms may transform into each other. During battle, the player has the ability to instantly swap between the forms, which opens up a wide variety of strategic options based on the most recent action or movement taken. This results in the awarding of plasma points, which can be spent on improving Nevio’s life energy, learning new maneuvers, or acquiring more powerful weaponry.
