Lovestorix has feelings for Princess Irina, but Brutus is also interested in having a relationship with her. In order to find a solution to this issue, the Princess comes to the conclusion that she will wed the Olympic champion. At the same time, the malevolent Doctormabus has unearthed a dimensional key, which enables him to open portals to parallel realities. He poses a threat to the equilibrium that exists between the worlds because of this key. But naturally, Asterix and Obelix come to the rescue, and they not only have to put a stop to Doctormabus, but they also have to assist Lovestorix in winning the games.

You take control of both Asterix and Obelix, just like in Astérix & Obélix XXL 2: Mission: Las Vegum, and fight your way through hordes of Romans while building up combos with your fists and answering tiny riddles along the way. In addition, you are free to control either Obelix or Asterix at any time during the game. But because you are competing in the Olympic Games, there are also other minigames waiting for you, and you will need to win them all in order to make further progress in the main tale. Minigames consist of a variety of different activities, such as the Long Jump and Tug of War. These field events are performed in a manner that is quite similar to that of Asterix and Obelix. For instance, in order to run, you will need to alternate between two buttons as quickly as you can.

After you have finished an event in the story mode, you will have the option to play that event again independently in the Olympic Mode. In this mode, two people (or one player competing against the computer) compete against one another for the gold medal in each event.

In the story mode, you can also collect helmets by destroying objects in the scenery or by beating Romans. You can use these in-game to purchase health or new combos, or you can use them to unlock smaller portions of the movie. As you go through the tale, you will also be able to unlock new characters for the Olympic Mode.

In addition, the plot of the video game does not match the plot of either the comic or the film. Instead, it uses a unique twist using portals to the real world, which allows some of the actors from the film to appear in the game.
