Blitz: The League is the first football game in many years without an NFL license; because EA signed an exclusive deal with the NFL, Midway created one without the license. There are 17 fantasy teams in the game, each with its look and feel, from personalities to logos. The game distinguishes itself from official games even further by giving the players an off-field presence, frequently involving sex, performance-enhancing drugs, and violence. The writer for Playmakers, the football-themed soap opera that the NFL forced ESPN to cancel, contributed to the game. Blitz: With 8-man teams, the League makes spectacular action-packed moves easier than in real life. Unusual activities increase your Clash meter, allowing you to pull off impossible activities like easier running due to Bullet Time and some brutally tough defense tackles. If these tackles occur frequently enough, the players will fight like a hockey players, lunging into wild kits. The team with the most tackles wins the Unleashed mode, which includes even more gruesome moves in a style that the NFL would not want to be associated with their product. Multiplayer action with head-to-head online play and customization options for players, teams, stadiums, and more are also included. Lawrence Taylor is the poster boy.
