In the aftermath of the events that transpired in Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen, the vampire Kain has spent the past two hundred years gathering an army of other vampires in an effort to conquer the Earth inhabited by humans. While he is battling his way through Nosgoth, his ultimate objective is to reach the mighty city of Meridian and seize control of this fortress. When the army finally arrived at the city gates, however, they were met with opposition from the Serafan Order, which was a well-organized group of vampire hunters led by a powerful magical Serafan lord. Kain goes head-to-head with the Serafan lord in single combat, but ultimately comes out on the losing end. The Soul Reaver, Kain’s blade, has been taken by his adversary. After being unconscious for two hundred years, Kain awakens under the care of the vampire Umah to a world that is difficult for him to recognize. The vampires have been chased down by the Serafan, and now there are only a few of them left after the Serafan destroyed their army. The Serafan Order exercises its authority over the city of Meridian through a system of martial law and expects a lot from its inhabitants. At the same time, that strange glyph magic is utilized to power machinery and fuel industry, it is also used as wards across the city to protect against vampires and is lethal to them. Kain has sworn revenge on his foe who was responsible for his downfall and is working toward regaining his position as lord of the vampires.
The Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen 2 is a third-person action game with aspects of the adventure. From a perspective standpoint, the game is more analogous to Soul Reaver than it is to the previous Blood Omen game. The player takes control of Kain from behind his shoulder and has the ability to move him in a variety of directions, attack, jump, cling onto ledges, and employ evil gifts. Because Kain’s life force is continually being depleted, he has no choice but to constantly replace it by consuming blood. Blood can be obtained by devouring any nearby live creature, which typically requires first vanquishing an opposing force through battle. The more blood Kain drinks, the more his meter will fill up. After reaching full capacity, Kain will receive more health. In addition, Kain acquires new dark gifts as the game progresses by vanquishing increasingly powerful boss foes. The power to perform a tremendous horizontal leap, shoot projectiles, employ projectile telekinesis, or blend into the mist are just some of the abilities that can be bestowed. A good number of these abilities can be used to carry out sneak kills, which result in the instant death of an opponent. Kain is able to fight with either his bare hands or by taking up various weapons such as daggers, swords, axes, and so on. These weapons each have their own unique attack, and eventually, they will shatter, but they can also be hurled at foes from a distance.
The Serafan practice glyph magic because, among other reasons, it is extremely lethal to vampires. Kain will frequently come into regions in which he is unable to continue because of glyph barriers and will be required to figure out a solution to get around them. In addition, the operation of machines and switches is comparable to that of electricity because glyphs operate as the power source. In order to solve many of the challenges presented in Blood Omen 2, players will need to construct glyph circuits in order to channel power to the appropriate locations. The user will be able to see exactly where the energy spark is located thanks to the light that glyph energy emits as it moves along its link.
