Rayne is first seen in the FMV, staring at a burning area. The following scene takes place before the fire. Rayne is seen entering the Blood Library, which contains a few Nazis. Knowing Kagan is present (an influential Nazi collaborator), she intends to kill him. Kagan notices her but is unmoved by her presence. He recognizes his offspring (but does not know her name), but she smells “tainted,” prompting him to inquire about her mother. He doesn’t know her mother’s name because he is “terrible with names,” but he doesn’t care because she died with her family. He appears to be preoccupied with something. He discovers what he is looking for, the “Vesper Shard.” Knowing Rayne still wants to kill him, he drags Professor Trumain up from the floor, severely beaten, his small intestine wrapped around his neck. Kagan knows they are acquainted and that Truman has “stolen” yet another offspring from him. During his speech, he speculates that the Brimstone Society knew the Vesper Shard’s abilities and planned to kill their Vampire allies such as Rayne. Truman pulls out a detonator, giving Rayne time to flee before detonating the grenade.
