BlowOut is a side-scrolling action video game released in 2003 for GameCube, PlayStation 2, Xbox, and Microsoft Windows. Terminal Reality was the company that developed the game, while Majesco Entertainment was the company that distributed it. It is a run-and-gun shoot-em-up similar to games like Contra and Metal Slug, and it has a power-up-based exploration structure identical to that of Metroid. The player takes on the character of John “Dutch” Cane, a space marine who is playing the game and is assigned the mission of checking on researchers working on the space platform “Honour Guard,” only to find out that the researchers have been hideously deformed.
