It took no less than six years for the third edition of the Broken Sword series to see the light of day after it was first published. Both of the first two games, “The Shadow of the Templars” and “The Smoking Mirror,” featured extensive research into the mythos of the Knights Templar and the Maya. This time around, George Stobbart and Nico Collard are on a mission to decipher the mysteries contained within the Voynich Manuscript.

The Sleeping Dragon abandons the 2D point-and-click gameplay of the prior games and instead incorporates a complete 3D world. The camera in this game does not rotate but rather uses fixed cinematic perspectives, and the game also features full 5.1 sound. The movement of the characters and all of the actions in the Windows version of the game are now handled entirely by the keyboard rather than by the mouse. This applies to both the movement of the characters and all of the actions. George and Nico will take turns being controlled by the player. In addition to the more traditional elements of an adventure game, such as hunting for goods, having talks with other characters, and exploring new areas, there are also a few action sequences. In order to access higher regions, the players have the ability to move containers, duck, sneak, and hang from ledges.

The Congo, Paris, England, the Czech Republic, and Egypt are among the places that players will go to during the course of the game.
