The DS and Game Boy Advance versions of this game are not the same as this one. The plot of the story involves Crash’s most sworn enemies, Neo and Nina Cortex, developing a machine that transforms the animals that live on Crash’s island into monstrosities and poses a threat to the life of people who live on the tranquil island. Crash must put an end to them by “hijacking” these monsters and using their power to combat the strength of the Cortex.
The gameplay consists of the player exploring levels, picking up power-ups to use against foes, and for the first time, using fighting combos against enemies such as punches and kicks. In addition, players have the ability to “hijack” one of fifteen unique antagonistic monsters and use them as a weapon against the other monsters in the game. Each monster has its own set of unique abilities and powers, such as the ability to breathe fire or cause earthquakes. In addition, players are able to interact with their environment by doing things such as swinging from ropes, climbing trees, and even surfing and skating around the many levels. Additionally, there are co-op capabilities, which allow a friend to join in on the action at any time.
The games are virtually indistinguishable from one another, with the exception of the controllers (the Wii makes use of the Wii-remote), and the graphics vary according to the capabilities of the various systems.
