Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80s (titled Guitar Hero: Rocks the 80s in Europe)[4 is the third installment in the popular Guitar Hero series. It was released in North America and Europe in July 2007 and in Australia in August 2007. Players simulate playing rock music by hitting notes as they scroll toward the player using a guitar-shaped controller (purchased separately). Rocks the 80s is a part of the Guitar Hero series rather than a full sequel. There have been no changes to the gameplay from Guitar Hero II. As the title suggests, the game has a 1980s theme, with songs from the era and playable characters, fashions, and artwork that reflect the era. Due to the lack of new gameplay features and a reduced soundtrack, the game was not as well received as the previous two Guitar Hero games. Rocks the 80s is the third and final title in Harmonix’s Guitar Hero series before moving on to create Rock Band. [5] The series’ next major installment, Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock, was created by Activision’s Neversoft division. [6]
