King Athellion has left his homeworld to participate in an intergalactic crusade. He left behind a massive bell – The Golden Voice – for his people to use if they were ever in danger. During his absence, however, the evil Lord Vetch invades the planet and enslaves Athellion’s people with a deadly virus. A virus that necessitates ongoing treatment with the antidote Catana. Lord Vetch could quickly force everyone to work for him because he was the only one in charge of the catana-support. To prevent Athelion’s return, he hid The Golden Voice, which was soon forgotten, along with the king’s promise. Forgotten until Haven, one of the enslaved people, begins having dreams about a hill and a bell, the meaning of which he does not comprehend. When Lord Vetch learns of the Haven’s dreams, he orders his assassination. Haven escapes and eventually learns the true meaning of his dreams, and he is determined to find The Golden Voice and end Lord Vetch’s reign. Haven is a fast-paced, action-packed platformer with elements from several other genres. Haven can equip various weapons, and portions of the gameplay are more like a shoot-them-up than a platformer. There are also several vehicles to control, including speedboats, jetcars, gliders, spaceships, and jetpacks. Despite the action, some slower-paced levels focus more on puzzle-solving and exploration. Rodney Matthews, a well-known English sci-fi/fantasy artist, created Haven’s conceptual artwork, evident in the surrealistic, bizarre design.
