Kessen is a strategy game that tells the story of the events that brought feudal Japan out of a century of civil war and installed the Tokugawa Shogunate as the dominant political entity for the next two hundred years. These events led to the Tokugawa Shogunate becoming the dominant political entity in Japan for the next two hundred years. You will fight in real-time as either Tokugawa Ieyasu or his enemies. One of the fights you will participate in is Sekigahara, considered one of the largest and most renowned wars in Japanese history. Depending on the campaign’s outcome—whether you win or lose—you will follow a path that will either lead you through the actual historical events of the period or hypothetical “what if?” scenarios. You give orders to your generals in real-time, telling them where to lead their forces, who to fight, and what unique acts to execute during the battles. These exceptional actions, such as firing your cannons, attacking your opponent, or releasing a flight of arrows, are shown in cutscenes that are up close and personal, similar to those in a movie theater. You will be shown cutscenes before, after, and even sometimes in the middle of combat that reflect the personal hardships of your various subordinates. These scenes can be viewed at any moment.
