Kirikou and the Wild Beasts (French: Kirikou et les bêtes sauvages) is a 2005 French animated feature film directed by Jacques Audiard. It debuted on May 13, 2005, at the Cannes Film Festival and, unlike its predecessor, received only festival screenings in all English-speaking territories. KimStim (distributed by Kino International) released it as Kirikou and the Wild Beast on an English-subtitled DVD-Video in the United States on July 29, 2008. The film is more of a prequel to Kirikou and the Sorceress than a direct sequel. The story occurs when Kirikou is still a child and Karaba is still a sorceress. It’s an anthology film, like Princes et Princesses and Les Contes de la nuit, with several episodic stories about Kirikou’s interactions with various animals. It is, however, unique among Michel Ocelot’s films in that it is co-directed by Bénédicte Galup (who previously worked with him as an animator), as well as that each of the stories is written by a different person (in all other cases, Ocelot has been the sole writer and director of his films). Kirikou and the Savage Beasts is a platform game based on the Michel Ocelot and Benedicte Galup film of the same name. Karaba, the Witch, and the terrible beasts continue to impact the village. Play as the young Kirikou and face all the threats to its people.
