Mystics live as outcasts, shunned by most humans because of their unique connection to the world of spirits: they can summon powerful supernatural beings known as Origins. A small village called Nohl is a haven for Mystics, one of whom is a young swordsman named Lang, whose job is to guard a crystal that provides water to the town. One day, Lang meets a mysterious man who manipulates him into giving up the crystal. Lang, determined to correct his error, embarks on a journey to retrieve the crystal, during which he will learn more about the role of the Mystics and their Origins in the world. Legaia 2: Duel Saga is a sequel to Legend of Legaia, though it is not directly related to it in terms of plot and features a different cast of characters. It, too, is a Japanese-style role-playing game with turn-based combat. During battles, the player must press a combination of buttons corresponding to fighting moves, called the “Arts” system. These are further subdivided into “Normal Arts” (basic moves), “Hyper Arts” (more powerful moves that require the expenditure of particular points), “Mystic Arts” (Origin powers), and “Variable Arts” (team attacks). The game also includes a Camping mode, which allows the player to communicate with the characters in the party, prepare meals from ingredients, and craft items like weapons, armor, and accessories.
