Madden NFL 09 is the nineteenth installment in the famous American football video game series. Except for Windows, which had annual releases since Madden NFL 97, it was released for all major platforms at the time. The essential gameplay elements are unchanged from the previous version, with various tweaks and enhancements. For the past 60 years, the Franchise mode has been modified to allow for team management. A rookie player can be created in Superstar mode, or imported from NCAA Football 09, to improve their skills and become one of the best players. There is an option to retry specific sections, and an analysis tool thoroughly examines the tactics and errors. Three accessibility options are included for new players: one-button gameplay, handicapping options, and adaptive skill levels to replace the regular difficulty levels. The game can be advanced to the next change of possession using Super Sim, and there are various celebration routines to choose from. As with previous editions, an updated, fully licensed player roster, graphical improvements, and gameplay updates exist. A few features of earlier versions are back (Grudge Match, Slide Protection, …) A Virtual Trainer with twelve drills in a holographic environment is introduced. A “Madden IQ” is assigned based on the results. Cris Collinsworth and Tom Hammond provide match commentary.
