Mashed is a high-octane top-down arcade racer. On 13 tracks (which must first be played for free in single-player), you must use your driving skills to survive and finish first with one of the four cars available (from slow to speedy). The bronze, silver, and gold challenges for each track you complete to play free the following way are at the heart of the single-player mode (aside from the quick battle against the AI). Each challenge is one of Mashed’s seven (eight in multiplayer) game modes, from simple race events (just be the first) to battles where you must kill all your enemies before they kill you to the ultimate survival mode where no one likes you. To make things easier, nine different power-ups and weapons are scattered throughout the tracks that you can collect. There’s everything you need to knock the opposing drivers out of the race, from simple oil slicks over mines to lethal mortars. They can, of course, select from the available equipment. Because you can only take a few hits, you must ensure they cannot use them against you. To make matters worse, there are numerous small passages (or the track is just one small passage…) with nothing on one or both sides of the way where you or your opponent can fall very deep.
