The situation that was created after the Second World War when the world was torn between East and West is about to heat up as a result of the Soviets getting their top scientist, Nikolai Stepanovich Sokolov, back as a result of an agreement with the government of the United States for the withdrawal of nuclear missiles from Cuba. Now that they have Sokolov in their possession, they are working on constructing a devastating new weapon, and when the CIA realized how urgent the situation was, they devised a plan to seize Sokolov again. They send the clandestine FOX squad to Sokolov’s research center, which can be found to the south of the massive Soviet fortification known as Groznyj Grad. FOX is a next-generation special forces team that acts both as a specialized combat squad and as a covert intelligence operation. It is led by Major Zero, a veteran of the SAS who formerly served in the unit. The standard method of operation for the FOX team is to smuggle a lone agent into enemy territory while providing them with radio support so that they may complete their mission undetected.
On the day of the attack, August 24, 1964, a solitary soldier appears out of nowhere. This individual goes under the alias Naked Snake. It is now a one-man war, and the fate of the world may now depend totally on the shoulders that he carries on his back.
The entire Metal Gear series can be considered to begin with the events of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.
