The rough-housing gameplay, odd codes, and amusing commentary are all still present and intact in SlugFest 20-04, the second entry in Midway’s baseball series of video games. In addition to the brand new Home Run Derby mode and the Create-A-Team customization choices, the game also includes the ability for pitchers to catch “On Fire” and difficult Special Pitches that zigzag, arch, and whizz by in ways that would make any batter feel like an idiot. The previous group of hidden teams has been supplemented with other ones, and these new teams include aliens, minotaurs, and Sub-Zero from the Mortal Kombat franchise. Instant Replay, which can be customized, is another feature that adds a lovely touch. It enables you to revisit the awkward times after you have paused the game. And, of course, Tim Kitzrow and Jim Shorts will be back in the commentators’ booth, where they will continue to engage in the rambling, argumentative banter that has been their trademark.
