Although the Moon, space colonies, and asteroids are occasionally visited, the game takes place entirely in Outer Space. The player controls a variety of Mobile Suits, Mobile Armour, and other spacecraft in an array of zero-gravity environments. Thrusters can also temporarily increase the speed and maneuverability of these mobile weapons. These vehicles can move forward, backward, and side to side with the left analog stick and up and down with the R1 and R2 buttons, allowing 360-degree combat. The game is primarily free roaming, with a few rail shooter sections for good measure. Players can choose from various varying primary, sub, and melee weapons between units. Specific crafts also have a special attack that can be activated once a particular meter is filled. The game is divided into several story modes, each corresponding to a different pilot or setting. These pilots range from main characters from the original Gundam series to lesser-known Gundam manga pilots. There is also a two-player multiplayer vs. mode in the game. In multiplayer, players can also compete against AI units. Finally, there is a mode in which players can design their unique pilots for multiplayer use.
