The action game Mobile Suit Gundam: Journey to Jaburo is based on the Mobile Suit Gundam films and series. The game starts at the beginning of the series and ends after the second film. The game is an action game with a standard third-person view. It includes hand-drawn cutscenes from the original television series, a CGI opening depicting a space battle from the One Year War, and then a scene of the Gundam destroying several Zaku IIs before being attacked by Char Aznable. In addition, it serves as a prequel to Mobile Suit Gundam: Encounters in Space. The English dub of the video game features the voices of the actors who were cast for the Mobile Suit Gundam television series, rather than the English cast of the films, as with most games released after the series’ dubbing. Journey to Jaburo is set during the One Year War and follows the crew of the White Base as they travel from the Side 7 sector of space colonies to the Federation headquarters on Jaburo. The game begins with three Zaku mobile suits attacking the Federation’s prototype mobile suit weapons at Amuro Ray’s home on Side 7. Amid the chaos, Amuro fights Zaku units in the Gundam and is assigned to the White Base as the Gundam’s pilot. Char Aznable, “The Red Comet,” pursues the White Base after it leaves the colony. During re-entry, Char attacks the White Base (where the power of the Gundam’s beam rifle is revealed), diverting them into Zeon-controlled territory in North America. After overcoming numerous Zeon defenses (including Garma Zabi in Seattle), the White Base travels to Asia to face Ramba Ral, an ace pilot who raised Sayla Mass as a child. After Ramba Ral commits suicide by throwing a grenade into Gundam’s hand, the White Base crew travels to Belfast for repairs. They eventually arrive in Jaburo, where Char’s “Mad Angler” squadron discovers the base’s location and launches a massive attack to conquer it. The Zeon forces are defeated, and the White Base, now known as the “13th Autonomous Mobile Squadron,” departs into space.
