The player has the ability to create their own creatures and then pit them against other players in Monster Lab. The player takes on the role of a youthful mad scientist in this tactical role-playing game that aims to fuse Tim Burton’s aesthetic with that of Pokémon. The player’s goal is to help save Uncanny Valley from the clutches of the villainous Baron Mharti.
The player must learn and perfect each of the three branches of Mad Science: mechanical, biological, and alchemical by collecting parts and performing mad experiments in the castle under the tutelage of the three mad science masters. These three branches of Mad Science are: mechanical, biological, and alchemical. The player’s level can increase with every successful creation and every victory they achieve in combat. The player navigates the eerie environment of Uncanny Valley by taking control of the monsters they have created and traveling through its six zones. In dramatic, fast-paced turn-based battles in single-player mode, players pit their monster creations against the forces of Baron Mharti as well as adversaries encountered in the wild. Players can also compete against each other in online multiplayer mode. When the player creates monsters, the quality of the pieces they use and the kinds of parts they utilize will affect the monster’s strengths and weaknesses.
