Electronic Arts presented the world with the video game NHL 2001 in 2000. It is the game that came out after NHL 2000. The Swedish and Finnish hockey leagues and teams were added to the game on March 8, 2001, when an add-on called Elitserien was made available for purchase. It is the ninth game in the NHL series, the last one to be released on the Playstation, and the first one to be released on the Playstation 2 console.
