The Nakatomi company is looking for the fragments of the Akujiki sword, which Hotsuma destroyed in the game that came before this one called Shinobi. The Oboro ninja clan has, thankfully, been reestablished in recent years. Your mission as Hibana, kunoichi (female ninja) of the Oboro clan, is to locate the components of the Akujiki before Nakatomi can do so.
Shinobi, a video game developed by Overworks and released for the PlayStation 2, spawned Nightshade. It is similar to its predecessor in that it consists of multiple stages packed with foes that require you to use a mix of your sword, shuriken, and magic scrolls to defeat them. The focus is still placed on speed and stealth, as you can complete lengthy series of kills known as tates by using stealth dashes and the ability to walk on walls. The ability to build significantly greater combos and states is one of the primary changes that have been made to the gameplay system. As a means of facilitating this, they have enhanced the combat system to include flying kicks, which may be used to shatter your opponent’s guard, and stealth attacks, which can be used to kill unwary enemies with a single stroke.
