Even after ten years have passed since the solitary swordsman Samanosuke led an uprising against an army of demon warriors, Nobunaga’s terrible crusade is still wreaking havoc over feudal Japan. When the young warrior Jubei finally makes it back to his village, he discovers that the henchmen of Nobunaga have leveled what was once a thriving community to the ground. Jubei sets off on an adventure that is both legendary and magical in the hopes that it may shed light on his ultimate destiny. He does this with vengeance in his heart.

Just like Samanoske before him, Jubei has the ability to augment his weapons and armor by absorbing the souls of monsters that he has vanquished. You can vanquish monsters in one of two ways: by attacking them until their health bar is empty, or by attacking them at the precise moment just before they make contact with Jubei. This will cause Jubei to perform an Issen attack, which is a one-hit kill move that destroys everything in its path. During the first half of the game, Jubei has the ability to find or purchase items and then present these to the companions he meets in order to become friends with them. The game’s plot will diverge in many directions depending on who Jubei befriends.
