Lewis, a metal rocker, has a girlfriend named Jen, and the two of them have a history together that includes enduring challenging times together. Lewis is attacked by a mysterious and powerful thing after a concert, and the creature takes off into the night with Lewis, leaving Jen severely injured and on the verge of passing out.
Jen crosses paths with a diminutive gargoyle by the name of Scree, who explains to her that she is obligated to depart the material world of Mortalis and travel with him to the demonic plane of Oblivion. The beast who kidnapped Lewis and left her for the dead is an agent of Abaddon, who is a representative of chaos. Abaddon and Arella, who are representatives of order, have been engaged in conflict with one another for aeons. The equilibrium between chaos and order has been thrown off, and it is now Jen’s responsibility to restore it while simultaneously keeping her fingers crossed that she will find out where Lewis is.
It is possible to classify Primal as a “3D platformer,” and its fundamental gameplay principles are fairly comparable to those found in Tomb Raider games. The gameplay focuses mostly on solving puzzles and engaging in a battle that is action-oriented. The player has the ability to switch between Jen and Scree at any time; although Jen is able to fight, Scree is immune to any attacks that are launched against her. Screen has a limited amount of time to bring Jen back to life after she has been incapacitated in battle. If he is unable to do so, the game will be over before its intended conclusion.
The emphasis in combat is placed mostly on “finishing techniques,” as well as Jen’s ability to change into several demonic forms. There are a total of four different demons with which Jen can combine; these demons are acquired one at a time as the story of the game progresses. Jen is able to make use of her exceptional talents, such as jumping to impossibly high heights, swimming at unnaturally fast speeds, slowing down time, and wielding formidable weapons, when she is in her demonic forms.
