There are no other ships available for the players to choose from. Thus they are always in control of the infamous Raiden Supersonic Attack Fighter. Player 1 always has the red version, while player 2 always has the blue version. The two-player mode has been improved with an additional attack only available in this mode: a beam that can be used whenever one player lines up in front of another. The life and bomb stocks are split between the two players in the Double play mode, and there is no continue option. On the PlayStation 2, a single controller can play either player.
