Ichiro Ogami travels to Paris in the third book of the Sakura Taisen series to take leadership of the Flower Assault Squad, also known as the attractive girls of Paris Kagekidan, who the lovely Erica leads. As in Japan, this particular unit has a complicated base camouflaged as a theater. This is because the females of Paris Kagekidan can both perform on stage and pilot enormous steam-powered mechs. Ichiro must now assume command to protect Paris from the danger posed by the demon. A mysterious evil is currently posing a threat to the city. The fundamental gameplay structure of the series is carried over into Sakura Taisen 3, which is a hybrid of dating-oriented role-playing (with timed responses during talks with the girls and the opportunity to win the affection of one of them) and strategic turn-based fights. The graphics in the game are entirely in 3D, including Paris’s struggles and landscape (although the locations in adventure mode are still 2D images). You can now maneuver your mechs physically on the battlefield rather than by pointing and clicking. An action points-based system has replaced the “two different commands per round” style of play included in the first two games in the series.
