Koei expanded upon the popular Dynasty Warriors series with the release of Samurai Warriors. Samurai Warriors transports players to feudal Japan during the warring states era rather than China during the Three Kingdoms era. You, the player, assume the role of a historical figure, such as Yukimura Sanada, Nobunaga Oda, or Hattori Hanzo, to progress through the game. There are fifteen characters, ten of which must be unlocked before you can use them. The gameplay is essentially highly similar to that of the Dynasty Warriors series. The most critical distinctions concern aspects such as the addition of indoor castle levels and a wider variety of foes to face. Most enemies you faced in Dynasty Warriors were either soldiers or archers. There are many different types of ninjas to choose from in Samurai Warriors, as well as soldiers, archers, and musketeers. In terms of the story, there are only five levels. Still, depending on your actions within a particular group specific to each character, the report will branch off into two different stories, leading to either a satisfying conclusion or one that is not quite as satisfying. The additions are topped off with modernized graphics and a soundtrack with a more “techno-ish” feel.
