Samurai Warriors 2 is a video game that was developed by Omega Force and published by KOEI. Omega Force and KOEI are the same companies who were responsible for the development and publication of the renowned Shin Sangoku Musou (Dynasty Warriors) series. Samurai Warriors 2, like its predecessor, is based on the Japanese Sengoku period, also known as the “Warring States” period. This was a time of social upheaval, political intrigue, and nearly constant military conflict in Japan, and it lasted roughly from the middle of the 15th century to the beginning of the 17th century. Samurai Warriors 2 is set in the same world as the original Samurai Warriors game.

The hack-and-slash action takes place from the third-person perspective. There are a total of 26 characters available for you to play as. After you have selected your character, you will immediately be thrust into massive real-time battles. The objective of these battles is to assist in claiming victory for your army by either vanquishing key enemy officers or simply slaying a large number of enemy troops. This will boost the morale of your army and cause the tides of battle to turn in your favor.

The previous game has been updated with the addition of ten new warriors, including the famed Musashi Miyamoto, Ieyasu Tokugawa, the man credited with unifying Japan, and the mysterious ninja Kotaro Fuma. Every fighter has a distinct repertoire of moves and skills at his disposal. You can do things like set traps and call forth ninja decoys. Employ devastating Linked Charge attacks and fill up to three of your Musou gauges with power. The warfare of the field and the fortress now merge together smoothly. On the battlefield, gaining control of castles can provide a considerable morale benefit for your army. There are several different game types, the most prominent of which are the Story, Free, and Survival modes. You can compete against your friends in the “Sugoroku” bonus party game, which supports up to four players, or you can work together with them in the “two-player Co-op” mode.
