Fred invites the other members of Mystery, Inc. to accompany him when he visits his cousin Jed at his place of employment at the Monstrous Fright & Magic. MFM is a special effects firm that develops monster costumes using a specific formula that they devised and named “Mubber.” This formula makes the costumes appear to be so genuine that the person wearing the costume actually transforms into the monster that they are portraying. They discovered the location in a state of disarray when they arrived there. The proprietor of MFM and the person who invented Mubber, Winslow Stanton, told them that someone had stolen the formula for Mubber and that by utilizing it with their animations, the perpetrator had both destroyed the building and vanished. He is under the impression that Jed is responsible for it because he, too, vanished. It would appear that Scooby-Doo and the rest of the gang have their work cut out for them in terms of locating Jed, putting an end to the activities of the masked villains, and deciphering the mystery at hand.

As seen in Scooby-Doo! Unmasked, you will take control of Scooby and assist Mystery, Inc. in their search for clues, battle against monsters, and occasionally save your pals from peril. You will go to several different worlds, including China Town and a museum, throughout your vacation. You will come across a variety of monsters, such as the Chinese Zombie and the Black Knight, and the only way to get past them is to use your spin, slide, roll, and smash attacks on them. Additionally, if you collect mubbers, you will be able to fashion unique costumes that will endow you with unique abilities. For instance, if you wear a Kung Fu Costume, you’ll be able to move with more dexterity and power than you could without it. Be sure to keep an eye on your current Scooby Medal count, since this will give you an idea of how healthy you currently are. If your health drops to zero, the game will resume from the most recent save point, but you can regain some of it by picking up enough of the Scooby snacks that are scattered over the environment. In addition, if you gather the necessary ingredients, Shaggy will be able to prepare a unique supper for you, which will result in an increase in the overall number of medals you possess.

After you have gathered a sufficient number of clues in each realm, Velma will ask you a series of questions in an effort to determine who is behind everything. You will need to select the clues that you believe will answer these questions in order to proceed. After that has been accomplished, you will have to defeat a boss before Velma will divulge the identity of the bad guy.

Scooby-Doo! Simply selecting Save Game from the Pause Menu at any time during the course of Unmasked will result in the game being saved. You also have the option to turn on the Autosave function, which, if activated, will cause the game to save your progress at various points on its own. You are free to play through any level as many times as you like in order to acquire any items that were missed the first time around. You can locate Bonus Arts in the Extras menu. This section of the menu contains a variety of concept artworks that were used in the development of the game.
