The members of the Kuzunoha family have a long history of working as skilled detectives, with a focus on investigating cases involving the supernatural. They have learned how to call forth monsters from hell and force them to fight against their own kind, on your side. This is the secret to devil summoning, which they have perfected. This one-of-a-kind ability has been passed down through the generations from parent to kid.

It is the Taishou era in Japan, and the country has just emerged from the First World War. During this time, Japan begins its rapid industrialization and rises to become one of the most powerful economies in the world. You take on the role of the fourteenth Raidou Kuzunoha, and a case that once appeared to be routine forces you to wage battle with a demon. At this point, your recently acquired talents in calling forth demons will come in very handy. After vanquishing your first demonic foe and calling forth your first companions, you are more determined than ever to investigate the city, find answers to your questions regarding the supernatural, and discover the reason why demons are present.

The Devil Summoner sub-series of the Megaten franchise has reached its third installment with this game. In contrast to the first two entries in the Shin Megami Tensei series, Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner – Raidou Kuzunoha vs. the Soulless Army features an action-oriented take on the series’ signature demon-summoning gameplay. You will still have the ability to capture and summon a variety of demons, but during battles, those demons will be controlled by artificial intelligence that you will be able to tune. Although the battles take place on separate screens, similar to other turn-based Asian role-playing games, you have full control over Raidou Kuzunoha’s movement and can engage your foes in real-time. You also have full access to the game’s combat system. You have access to a variety of attacks, including sword and pistol strikes, as well as other maneuvers, such as dashing and striking the opponent. Additionally, you can defend yourself by pushing buttons at the appropriate times. You won’t be fighting very often, but when you are, you’ll have to do a lot of detective work, such as exploring the city on foot, speaking to possible criminals, looking for information, and so on. You can obtain an advantage in your research by using some demon skills even while you’re not engaged in a fight with them.
