After experiencing the loss of your parents when you were young, you moved in with your relatives and lived in the suburbs until they made the decision to send you to a high school that was located on an island close to the city of Iwatodai. However, as you make your way to your new dorm room, you are ambushed by an unknown beast. Because of this, you find that you have the ability to summon a superior creature called Persona, who bestows upon you an extraordinary amount of power. Because of your newly acquired skill, you have made up your mind to look into the mysterious realm of shadows that has been tormenting the city at midnight in order to determine who or what is responsible for it.
This entry in the Persona series, which is a part of the Megami Tensei franchise, continues the plot of the previous entries in the series but does not directly connect them. Significant alterations have also been made to the gameplay, which now includes a “school simulation” component alongside the traditional Megaten RPG components. You get the opportunity to experience life as a typical high school student, complete with going to classes, chatting with friends, doing homework, looking forward to summer break, and so on. The game is broken up into individual school days, each of which has its own agenda.
However, as the clock strikes midnight, the real world stops moving, and only you and your friends who have distinct Persona skills can sense time passing while they fight the shadows. The conflicts are fought according to the standard format of demon summoning used in Megaten games. You have the option of using your weapons to strike, or you can summon a powerful Persona from deep within yourself. You will earn Persona cards as a reward for winning the combat. These cards can be fused together to create Personae that are more powerful. You have the ability to target foes’ weak points with your magic spells, which was inspired by the gameplay of the Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne video game. Taking advantage of these weak points enables you to conduct lethal combination attacks while the enemy is in a weakened state, which gives you an edge.
