All of the levels in Shox are based on one of three environments: Arid, which is a sandy environment reminiscent of the desert; Jungle, which is an unclean environment styled after the jungle; and Ice (an arctic, snowy and icy environment). On each course, the player must traverse three regions called “Shoxzones” while being timed. When a Shoxzone has been completed, the player receives a financial reward proportional to how long it took them to complete it. This prize is divided into three tiers: gold, silver, and bronze. On the other hand, if it takes the player longer than the allotted time for bronze to complete the zone, the prize will not be granted. Shox does not have any of the standard game modes associated with its genre. There is only one game mode available in Shox: the championship mode. Players choose one of 24 cars in this mode and compete in 30 different races across five other leagues.
