Henry Townshend is a man who lives in South Ashfield, which is located close to the iconic town of Silent Hill. He occupies a modest flat there. Henry suffers from a horrific nightmare during an odd night that includes reoccurring elements such as the following: his phone is dead, his windows are blocked, and his neighbors can’t hear him. When he glances at his door, he is disappointed to see that it is secured shut with numerous robust metal chains. A notice that reads “Don’t go out!” is affixed to the door. Only one person by the name of Walter has signed it. Henry is looking around his apartment to attempt to figure out what is going on when he notices a massive hole in the wall of his bathroom. Henry goes through the hole, only to discover a gateway that takes him to several dimensions after he passes through it. We can only hope that Henry will survive long enough to discover the truth about Room 302 and his residence.

In terms of atmosphere, Silent Hill 4: The Room is very much like previous games in the series. The atmosphere of the game is gloomy and ominous, and the player is never informed of what is around the next bend or down the next street. This installment of the series includes a variety of brand-new extras and components. Henry never ever leaves his apartment; rather, he makes use of a peculiar portal that allows him to travel to different realms, such as a hospital, a cult command center deep in the wilderness, and a prison. Henry also never truly leaves his apartment. There is now, in addition to the more common third-person view, a first-person mode that can be selected to control Henry while he is at his residence. Eyeball symbols are used to draw attention to things that can be interacted with by the user.

The earlier entries in the series focused primarily on solving puzzles and adventuring through the town; however, this particular game places a far more emphasis on actual battles. A certain region contains a greater number of hostile creatures, in addition to more congested and constrained spaces. The majority of the weapons that Henry employs come from the Silent Hill canon, such as the handgun, the golf club, and the steel pipe. The golf club is a new addition to this installment.
