In Shattered Memories, you play the role of Harry Mason, who is looking for his daughter Cheryl around the eerie village of Silent Hill. The game is billed as a re-imagining of the first Silent Hill game, and it does cast you in that role. The game does not include any weapons, so when the monsters appear, Harry has no choice except to flee for his life. This is a new element to the franchise, which also has a representation of the demonic alternate realm of Silent Hill as a world of ice.
During transitions between scenes, you’ll find yourself in a psychiatrist’s office, where you’ll be questioned privately about who you are and what you’ve been through in the past. The game will then adjust itself based on your responses, transforming characters and lines of dialogue into something that is designed to make you feel more uneasy in real life.
While you are exploring Silent Hill in quest of Cheryl, you will come across artifacts and recordings that provide insight into the town’s past. A flashlight that can be targeted in real time can be controlled using the Wii Remote. Harry’s mobile phone is able to receive calls and text messages from both the real world and the supernatural world, and it also has a camera capability that can be used to discover ghosts and the messages they have hidden.
