SingStar is a competitive music video game series published by Sony Computer Entertainment for the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 video game consoles. It was developed by London Studio and published by Sony Computer Entertainment. SingStar allows 1-2 people to sing karaoke in time with on-screen music using microphone peripherals. SingStar, the first game in the series, was released in Europe and Oceania in 2004. As of 2008, the SingStar series had over seventy titles released in PAL region territories,[1] with a small number of releases in North America. The tracklist is the main difference between each SingStar title. Each game edition comes with up to thirty songs on disc, with PlayStation 3 versions allowing you to purchase additional pieces from an online service. During gameplay, players can remove a game disc from the console and insert a new disc, giving them access to a new set of songs. Most SingStar titles are loosely based on musical genres, such as rock or pop music (SingStar Rocks! and SingStar Pop). SingStar games are sometimes localized for release in different regions, with tracklists catering to other markets and territories. In 2007,[2] the first artist-specific SingStar game (SingStar Die Toten Hosen) was released in Germany, followed by ABBA, Queen, Take That, Mecano, and Vasco Rossi in subsequent years.
