Spider-Man: Web of Shadows – Amazing Allies Edition is a side-scrolling video game that is played in two dimensions but uses three-dimensional graphics. The plot is very similar to that of the versions for consoles of the seventh generation. Spider-Man is the only one who can stop New Yorkers from becoming infected as a chunk of Venom’s symbiote shatters off and falls to the ground. He has the ability to transition at any time between the red costume and the back suit, and both of these suits have their own unique move sets and powers.
When Spider-Man successfully takes down foes, he earns skill points that he may put toward the purchase of enhanced statistics and brand-new moves. These are individual pieces that go with each costume. In general, red emphasizes dexterity, while black emphasizes brute force. You will need not only the required number of points but also a suitable amount of reputation in order to purchase moves. Several times throughout the game, you will have conversations with different characters in which you will be offered a choice between acting in a black or red manner or remaining neutral. Responding with either red or black will contribute to the overall reputation of that suit, as will a variety of other actions taken throughout the game.
Each level allows you to bring five different power-ups with you. These can take the form of unique abilities, such as momentary invincibility, or the allies referred to in the title. After being summoned, they make their appearance on the screen, deal the damage appropriate to their role, and then vanish. Defeating bosses is the only way to get allies. The black outfit allows the player to gain villain allies like Galactus and Hobgoblin, while the red suit allows the player to unlock hero allies like Luke Cage and Storm.
